Olivier Giroud inspired a stunning late comeback after coming on for Alvaro Morata which saw Chelsea score three goals in eight minutes to win Southampton 3-2 at St Mary’s.
Giroud scored a brace either side of a Hazard goal.
Giroud has now revealed what he told Hazard after coming on for Morata.
“The beginning of the game was not what we wanted but in football you always have a chance to step up, to bounce back, so we showed great character and team spirit,” Giroud told Sky Sports.
“It was tough for us, the second for them was difficult.
“The most important thing is never give up, believe in our quality, play our game and I am proud of what we have done today with our amazing support.
“I said when I came on to Eden Hazard we need to fight to the end keep believing.
“I didn’t tell him we would score, but our first goal put us in that position.”
Chelsea are now seven points off fourth-placed Tottenham, though the Blues have played a game more.
But Giroud isn’t giving up hope of finishing in the top four.
“As long as it is mathematically possible we will believe we can reach the top four,” Giroud added.
“We take the games one by one.
“We have got five or six finals to play after that we will see.”
