Chelsea were heading towards a 1-0 win against Barcelona before Lionel Messi’s second half equaliser from a Chelsea defensive mistake ensured Ernesto Valverde’s side holds the advantage heading into the return match in a fortnight’s time at the home of the runaway La Liga leaders.
Cesc Fabregas was part of a Chelsea midfield that were so strong against Barcelona and restricted the Blaugrana to just two shots on target.
However, Fabregas was unhappy with the fact that Chelsea had to sit deep for most of the game as Barcelona enjoyed over 70 percent of the possession.
Fabregas said after the game: “To spend 90 minutes there defending can be a long 90 minutes. It can be an eternity. You have to go there to attack we have to feel we can hurt them.
“Defending for 90 minutes is a suicide mission we have to have personality and play our game.”
