The second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinals finished 2-1 with Arsenal winning the tie and progressing to the final to play against Manchester City.
Here are 3 quick thoughts from the game:
CHELSEA AND CONTE’S STRUGGLES AGAINST ARSENAL CONTINUE:
In his nearly two years as Chelsea Manager, Antonio Conte has found it difficult to get a win against the Gunners. The often talked about psychological edge which created a mental siege on Arsene Wenger’s team caused by Chelsea’s displays of brain and brawn in times past has been quelled down. It’s now a reality that Wenger’s team now knows how to win Chelsea. That was the case last night. After taking the lead courtesy of Eden Hazard’s goal, Chelsea again succumbed to Arsenal’s resurgence in firepower to be ousted from the competition. Conte must find a way out to buck this new trend.
CHELSEA FAIL TO CAPITALIZE ON EARLY LEAD:
One issue facing Chelsea this season is our inability to seize control and kill off opponents especially against the Gunners. Despite leading via Hazard’s goal, we failed to add to our advantage as another goal would have possibly put the tie beyond Arsene Wenger’s team. Chelsea are obviously missing a spark that can transform is from contenders to winners.
CHELSEA MISS CHANCE TO WIN SILVERWARE:
Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal will really hurt deeply as it has denied us the chance to win the first silverware of the season. This would have been a morale boost in what has become a difficult season for the club.
Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
