It’s back to Champions League action for Chelsea after a morale-boosting win over West Bromwich Albion in the league. The dominant display of the team was quite encouraging and applaudable. More of the same will be needed on the European stage as we seek to conquer the continent. But first, we need to get past Qarabag to seal our passage to the knockout stages.

Here are 3 points to preview as we take on the Azerbaijani side:

QARABAG HAVE PROVED THERE ARE NO UNDERDOGS:

When the draw was made in the early stages of the season, virtually everyone predicted that the top two would be between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea, and then Roma would have to settle for the Europa league spot, while Qarabag would be eliminated totally. But in reality, Roma currently top the group, with Chelsea in second, and Atletico third.

The most shocking development have been the poor form of the Madrid club. Held to a draw in both ties against Qarabag was giant-killing. Prior to the draw, very few football fans had heard about the Azerbaijani Champions. Being referred to as the “Barcelona of the Caucasus”, the club will certainly not make it beyond this stage, but had made a big impact in the group stage. Chelsea may thread with caution to avoid another upset from the giant-killers.

DO CHELSEA HAVE THEIR SWAGGER BACK?

Three consecutive wins in the league after that horrible night in Rome is quite impressive and this form needs to be taken to the European stage. Chelsea’s demolishing of West Brom at the weekend shows that Conte’s team has the swagger to play against anyone. Hitting form at the right time is clearly the perfect doctor’s prescription after a bout of underperformance last month. Things appear better for the club than then. So let’s rule.

CHELSEA NEED OTHER RESULTS TO SWING IN THEIR FAVOUR:

After losing top spot in the last round of matches, Chelsea and Conte would dearly be licking their wounds for letting it slip off their hands. Victory over Qarabag and Atletico Madrid wouldn’t be enough to get us back to top spot, and so the need for other games to play in our favour is necessary at the moment. The prospect of facing a tough opponent in the knockout would be averted temporarily until the latter stages. If Roma fail to win their next games, and Chelsea win theirs, then it will sure be a landslide for Chelsea. But, it’s still a fantasy until its reality. Let’s watch out!

Let’s keep the Blue flag flying high and hope for the best. Cheers!
