What a perfect way to mark our return to Champions League football. Chelsea showed all the positives in a game that was too one-sided.
Here are 3 quick thoughts from the game:
CHELSEA MAKE ‘SOFT WORK’ OF QARABAG:
These kinds of games against low opposition teams are usually ‘banana peels’ which have the tendency to produce giant-killing moments and slipups. But Chelsea produced a master class performance to win the game and to remind the rest of Europe that the Blues are back and better.
CHELSEA’S FREE-SCORING POWER IS A STRONG FORTE IN THE SEASON LONG RUN:
Antonio Conte’s earlier remark prior to the game that Chelsea won’t underestimate their Azerbaijan opponents was good music. True to his words, Chelsea took the game to Qarabag and put them to sword scoring six goals. This gives us a strong lead at the top of our group and a strong goal difference.
SQUAD PLAYERS IMPRESS:
Conte’s decision to rest some key first team players was sensible. The rotation strategy is to help keep the players fresh to negotiate a gruelling fixture list of seven games in 21 games. The performances of Batshuayi, Zappacosta, Bakayoko, Christensen and all others, should have satisfied Conte and given him food for thought with regards to team selection.
It was a fantastic team performance and great result. Cheers to all True Blues.
