When Chelsea announced the signing of Davide Zappacosta on deadline day from Torino for a sum of £23 million, many believed he’d be just another squad player.
However, Zappacosta has shown that he won’t be a pushover and he’d fight Victor Moses for that position.
He made his Chelsea debut against Leicester City in our last Premier League game and despite playing for only 17 minutes, he showed a glimpse of his quality.
Zappacosta was brilliant against Qarabag tonight as he made his Champions League debut and his first start for the Premier League champions.
From Zappacosta’s game tonight, three things were obvious: He has pace, he’s a good presser of the ball and his attacking runs could upset any defence.
We’ve been used to Victor Moses owning the right wing-back position, but Conte now has another option in Zappacosta. They both have the quality and offer something different, and it’s definitely a good headache for the Chelsea manager.
But one thing is for sure, Zappacosta is a good signing and he’d definitely rival Moses for a starting spot.
