The transfer window was closed on Thursday night and it was an eventful one for Chelsea, as the Blues ended up making six signings during the window and two on transfer deadline day.
Chelsea lost out on a couple of signings, with so many players afraid to come and seat on the Chelsea bench. A number of players left the club on loan deals and Chelsea eventually signed two players in two key positions – Davide Zappacosta and Danny Drinkwater – in the wing-back position and central midfield respectively.
Zappacosta joined Chelsea from Torino on transfer deadline day, while Drinkwater joined from Leicester City.
The likes of Fernando Llorente, Ross Barkley and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were linked with the club but the deals didn’t go through anymore, especially that of Barkley who Chelsea and Everton agreed a fee for on transfer deadline, and with personal terms agreed, Barkley backed out of the deal. Chelsea also missed out on Oxlade-Chamberlain despite having agreeing a fee with Arsenal.
Fikayo Tomori joined Hull City on a season long loan deal and would link up with another Chelsea youngster Ola Aina as well as Michael Hector.
Brazilian attacking midfielder Nathan joined French side Amiens on loan until the end of the season.
Charlie Wakefield also completed a maiden loan move and joined Stevenage for the 2017/18 season.
Leaving Chelsea permanently on deadline day are defenders Kyle Jameson, who signed for West Bromwich Albion, and Cristian Cuevas, who has joined Dutch club FC Twente. Academy forward Malakai Hinckson-Mars has rejoined Barnet.
Chelsea midfielder, Jordan Houghton, also returned on loan to Doncaster Rovers for the 2017/18 season.
