Venue: Stamford Bridge

The Premier League season is open again and for defending champions Chelsea, they will start the defence of their title with a home game against Burnley.

Burnley ended last season in 16th position – a season which they spent fighting to stay up.

Chelsea defeated Burnley 3-0 at Stamford Bridge last season, although the Clarets were able to get a draw in the reverse fixture.

In the last six meetings between the two sides, Chelsea won four and two ended in draws.

The last time Burnley defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, it was in the year 1971.

Chelsea will be without injured Eden Hazard and Tiemoue Bakayako, while Victor Moses is banned as a result of his red card in the FA Cup final.

Chelsea head into this game with good opening day of season form. The Blues have gone 18 matches without defeat on the opening day since losing to Coventry in 1998 (W15, D3), and have earned an unrivalled 54 points on the Premier League’s opening season, winning 16 and losing just three of their 25 games.

Chelsea also have a good home record with Antonio Conte as the Blues have won 21 of their 23 competitive home matches under the Italian.

For Burnley, stats are against them heading into this game. They had the fourth worst goalscoring record in the division last season.

Worse still, Burnley have lost all three Premier League opening-day fixtures, scoring just one goal.

In terms of goalscoring, they had the fourth worst goalscoring record in the division last season.

My prediction: Chelsea 3 vs 0 Burnley
