Kick-off: Sunday, August 6, 2017. 13:00 GMT
Venue: Wembley Stadium
Chelsea and Arsenal will start the season today as both London teams seek to continue their rivalry with a Community Shield battle at the Wembley Stadium this afternoon.
The Community Shield will be a repeat of the previous season’s FA Cup final as Chelsea lost to Arsenal 2-1 just less than three months ago.
Despite losing to Arsenal in the FA Cup final last season, Chelsea have the edge over Arsenal in recent meetings. Chelsea have lost twice and beaten Arsenal thrice in the last five meetings.
This will be the third Community Shield between Chelsea and Arsenal – with the Blues winning in 2005 and the Gunners in 2015.
In the last 14 games between both sides, Arsenal have only won Chelsea three times, while three has ended in draws and Chelsea have won a whopping eight.
Luck might be on Chelsea’s side in this Community Shield game as The FA Cup winners have never gone on to beat the same opponent in the following season’s Community Shield.
Chelsea have won the Community Shield four times (all outright) – 1955, 2000, 2005 and last won it in 2009. Their victories in 1955 and 2005 came as league champions.
Arsenal have a good record in the Wembley Stadium as well. Although they lost their first two matches at the new Wembley Stadium, but have been victorious on all eight visits since (including one penalty shootout triumph).
