Chelsea lost their final pre-season game to Inter Milan as the Italian side defeated the Blues 2-1 in the tour of Singapore.

It might still be early days but these are four vital things we learnt from today’s defeat.

1. CHELSEA NEED A NEW LEFT WING-BACK

Marcos Alonso was a surprise package in the left wing-back position last season, but judging from Chelsea’s pre-season games, the Spaniard might not be what we need if we are going to be champions of England this season or have a good fight in the Champions League.

Alonso’s first-half performance wasn’t impressive and the fact that he was the first Chelsea player to be substituted shows what the manager thinks about the 26-year-old.

2. BOGA AND MUSONDA HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER

While it was expected that Charly Musonda will be part of the team for this season, no one expected anything from Jeremy Boga. But an injury to Pedro has shown what the youngster can do. Musonda and Boga had 30 minutes to shine today and they did a good job, especially Charly Musonda.

3. MORATA HASN’T BLENDED BUT BATSHUAYI IS LOOKING A DIFFERENT PLAYER

Had the referee not wrongly ruled out Michy Batshuayi’s late second-half goal, it would have been goals galore for the Belgian in pre-season, as the goal would mean Batshuayi has scored in all of Chelsea’s pre-season games. The Batman is in fine form.

However, Morata showed glimpses of what he could offer today but hasn’t totally blended with the team. No need to put pressure on the Spaniard so early on.

4. CRISTIAN CUEVAS

Cuevas was the man brought in to replace Kenedy who was sent home after annoying the people of China with his post on instagram. The young left-back had only two minutes of normal time plus five added minutes to show what he’s got in the left wing-back position and he gave a good account of himself in that short period. Can he provide competition for Alonso if Chelsea misses out on signing a better left wing-back?

  1. The team need to do a little more. Morata will surely blend well later, but Batshuayi need more polish so as to be our number one striker. The two of them with a little time will be a perfect combination to defend our league as winners, and the Champion League.
