The transfer market is a period of speculations for clubs as they are being linked to every player that seems available. Chelsea are no strangers to these rumours as we’ve had our own fair share of the round of speculations by the media. It’s a case of sweet lies and bitter truths.

Chelsea’s inability to produce a first team player after John Terry from our glowing academy has often been criticised and being much of a concern for the club. This has seen many youngsters leave the club in search of first team football. A factual argument for this is the changing nature of football as a sport into being result-oriented. Managers hardly want to take a gamble on a young player when his job could be on the firing line if he fails to deliver. This is obviously a reason for the failure of academy products making the transition into the Chelsea first team as regulars.

This is the curious case of defenders: Nathan Ake and Andreas Christensen.

Both defenders, Ake and Christensen have improved remarkably since joining Chelsea and have not looked back. Their loan spells away from the clubs have seen them mature into good players that should be fighting for a spot in the Chelsea first team. But with the club being linked with a host of defenders, both might begin to feel their futures lie elsewhere as they might not get the opportunity to prove themselves.

Chelsea should consider integrating them into the team and giving them opportunities to shine for the club. They would save the club reasonable chunk of cash in the transfer market. Both are good left footed players who could provide competition for places in defence and left wingback position.

This could just be Chelsea’s time to pride with ‘two of our own’. It’s about time we do so. Cheers.
