Chelsea might have ended the season as Premier League champions, but former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins wants Conte to spend big on players in the transfer window this summer.

Chelsea won the title without featuring in the Champions League and will be back in Europe’s elite club competition next season.

Wilkins was disappointed with the defeat to Arsenal and says improvement to the squad is needed, as well as blooding some younger players so as to complete favorably in Europe and the league.

“It was a magnificent achievement to win the league and then they went to sleep for a week and lost to the Gunners when they could have won a double,” the former Chelsea midfielder said on Sky Sports.

“A double in this country is so prestigious, but the lads didn’t turn up unfortunately for the final.

“It will be a lot more difficult (next season), they’re playing European football.

“What he has to do is that he has to bring in some stellar boys and some stellar signings but also utilise the young men that he’s got there as well in games in the League Cup, in the FA Cup.

“He’s got some wonderful talent coming through that youth section as well and just trust them a little bit more, trust them to be in with the big boys and play well.

“I think they will be okay Chelsea but next season will be doubly difficult with Champions League football.”
