Nathan Ake has revealed that he’s a true model professional as he isn’t driven by alcohol and he’s also not the type to knock on the manager’s door when he’s not being played.
He told the Guardian: “I don’t drink and I never have. A lot of people ask me why. But imagine if something goes wrong … I just want to make sure I’ve got nothing to blame, like: ‘I should have done this, I should have done that.’ I just want to focus on what I do on the pitch.”
He also revealed that he doesn’t like the idea of knocking on the manager’s door to get game time.
He said: “I would never do this. People always say: ‘You should talk to the manager, you deserve to play.’ I’m not really like that. I’m more like, if they want me to play, then they should play me. Sometimes of course you will ask: ‘What can I do?’ There was a time with Mourinho when I wasn’t playing and I just went to his office and asked what I could do to make his mind up a bit more about me, so he might give me a game. But I won’t come in and say: ‘I need to play.’”
