Chelsea showed their superiority over the Saints with a beautiful display, especially in the second-half, and we move closer to the prize with each victory.
See how the players fared:
Courtois: Would be unhappy to have conceded two goals, but didn’t really have much to do in the game. 6.5/10
Azpilicueta: Yet another commanding performance from the Spaniard in defence. Started in his usual role on the right side of the defence but ended the game as a right wing-back. 7.5/10
Luiz: A good game from the Brazilian, and he was a vocal presence in the centre of the back three. 7/10
Cahill: His headed goal just before halftime eased the pressure on the team; had a good game but could have done better for Ryan Bertrand’s stoppage time goal. 8/10
Matic: The Serbian was fantastic in the base of the midfield. Commanded the midfield with vigour, passed the ball really well, worked hard for the team, won a lot of balls and found himself in so many good shooting positions. He was a force in the middle today. 8/10
Kante: He barely has a bad game, and he was yet again excellent today. He worked tirelessly in the middle for Chelsea, had some interesting runs that caused Southampton’s defence trouble on a number of occasions and was also involved in the buildup to Cahill’s goal. 8.5/10
Moses: Had a decent game, even though he didn’t look at his very best. 7/10
Alonso: The Spaniard was happy to bombard the left flank; was always a willing outlet and also tracked back with so much intelligence. His header was an assist to Cahill’s goal. 7.5/10
Fabregas: The Spaniard had a huge influence on today’s proceedings; he was involved in the buildup to the first goal with a wonderful pass for Diego Costa who assisted Hazard to open the lead, and he also assisted Costa to score the third goal for Chelsea. 8/10
Hazard: When Hazard is on fire, Chelsea are also on fire, and he was on fire today. Caused problems for the Saints’ defence, scored a beautiful goal and also had a nice interplay with Fabregas that led to Costa’s first goal. 8.5/10
Costa: Brilliant game from the Spain international; he worked hard for the team, linked up well with the other forward players, assisted Hazard to score the first goal and then went on to score a brace. 9/10
Pedro: Had barely 14 minutes to show his stuff after coming on for Fabregas, and he showed his stuff. He assisted Costa’s second goal and was generally lively. 7/10
Terry: Came in to huge cheers from the Chelsea faithful as he replaced Victor Moses with just 5 minutes left, and he made two good interceptions within that timeframe and was really vocal in the defence.
Willian: Replaced Hazard with normal time almost up.
