A recent report done by football’s ruling body in Europe has found that there are nine European clubs who have become extremely powerful financially, and are creating a massive distance between themselves and other clubs.

Chelsea are among an elite group of nine European ‘super clubs’, including four other clubs from the Premier League, that are now so wealthy that nobody else has any realistic chance of catching them financially, a new official report from UEFA warns.

Besides Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool along with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, Germany’s Bayern Munich and France’s Paris Saint-Germain are featured in a new report from UEFA as being among ‘global brands’ who ‘monetise their huge supporter bases’ around the world in ways never seen before.

The Daily Mail report that in this hard economic terms, these clubs have each boosted their annual income by around £100million each just from commercial sources – mainly club and shirt sponsors – over the past six years. The average increase for most of Europe’s other 700-plus top division clubs in the same period has been well below £1m.

The president of Europe’s football governing body, Aleksander Ceferin, warns of the dangers this imbalance could bring.

But then, you can’t stop a club like Chelsea from growing, and with Champions League to come next season, and plans for a 60,000 capacity stadium, the sky is definitely a starting point for the Blues.

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
