Nathan Ake was recalled from his loan at Premier League outfit Bournemouth on Sunday after impressing for the Cherries in the first half of the season.

Ex-Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins believes Nathan Ake would be disappointed with Antonio Conte’s decision to recall him from loan because Ake is going to sit on the bench for the rest of the season.

“Ake can fill in but I think he’ll just be a number,” Wilkins told Sky Sports.

“I don’t think he’ll play. I bet Nathan is a little distraught this morning.

“He was playing week-in week-out at Bournemouth and playing very well.

“He’s coming back into the Chelsea fold but will he play? I don’t think so.

“Conte doesn’t change the team unless a player is burnt out.

“But they’re not playing European football so that doesn’t happen.”
