Willian’s mother Maria Jose Borges passed away on October 23 at the age of 57 after battling brain tumour for about two-and-a-half years.
Willian was given a compassionate leave after the death of his mother which meant he missed the game against Leicester City.
When Wilian returned, he found it difficult to get his place back in the team due to Pedro’s form. Willian failed to start a game until Chelsea’s win at Sunderland.
Willian revealed how difficult it has been for him since the death of his mother and how he is slowly rediscovering his form again.
“It has been a difficult time for me. I lost my mum. It has been very difficult emotionally,” Willian said. “She was very important for me and she always will be very important to me.
“After she died, I stayed in Brazil for a week. Slowly I have come back and started to feel better and to feel I can play for the team. Now I have to think only about the good things and to keep working, keep playing. That’s what I want to do.
“The manager talked to me and told me to stay concentrated, to work hard in training and when I come back into the game, to do my best. He helped me.”
