Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly happy to back Chelsea coach Antonio Conte in January as he wants to sustain Chelsea’s title challenge.
After defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal dampened the mood around Stamford Bridge, the mood around Stamford Bridge has improved significantly following Chelsea’s five consecutive victories by Chelsea that has left Chelsea only one point behind leaders Liverpool.
Conte is reportedly worried Chelsea’s squad is too thin and lacks strength in depth. If Chelsea are to sustain a title challenge, Antonio Conte believes Chelsea should make key signings in January.
Defence is one area Conte reportedly wants to strengthen in January and five defenders are reportedly in Chelsea’s transfer list.
Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci is Conte’s number one target for Chelsea’s backline.
Chelsea are also considering going back for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli in January after failing to sign him during the summer transfer window. AC Milan rejected an offer of £35 million for the 21-year-old defender in the summer but that won’t stop Chelsea from making another move in January.
Antonio Conte was also interested in signing AS Roma’s Antonio Rudiger in the summer but a move for the German international fell through after Rudiger suffered a serious knee injury. Manchester United are also interested in signing Rudiger.
Burnley’s Michael Keane and Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson are also in the list of defensive targets for Chelsea.
