Chelsea’s defence has been described as impenetrable and disciplined by Chelsea legend Pat Nevin.
Since Antonio Conte switched to the 3-4-3 formation, Chelsea have won four consecutive Premier League games without conceding a single goal.
“In most games with only a goal advantage away from home in the Premier League you can never feel really secure,” Pat Nevin wrote in his column for Chelsea official website.
“I have to say I absolutely did feel relaxed throughout and when Diego struck the second, I could have pottered off to get a cup of tea in the secure knowledge that if anyone was going to score in my absence, it would be the Blues.
“Not that I would walk away while watching the team in such form, but it was an ultra-disciplined performance from start to finish.
“Even though we have lost no goals in the past seven hours of league football, it is unsurprising when you defend with that level of organisation and concentration. What it underlined was a subject I was writing about on this page a few weeks ago.
“Antonio has a plan A for sure, but other plans stretching way down the alphabet are sitting there ready to be utilised when needed.
“The defending was not unlike Juventus at their best (without some of the cynicism) and that is high praise indeed.
“At the end when the back line of Cesar [Azpilicueta], Gary [Cahill] and David [Luiz] hugged in celebration of yet another clean sheet, the indulgent moment was richly deserved from this team within a team.
“Everyone around them gave a huge amount of help as well of course, from Thibaut Courtois behind and N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic ahead of them, it was nothing less than a living, breathing, impenetrable blue wall.”
